We are home again after a quick visit to northern Minnesota. Three short days with family, full of eating and crafting and lazing around, talking and laughing and more eating. My mom and I were busy bees working on a hundred different projects, and developing a few ideas for homemade gifts. A good snow storm provided the perfect backdrop for days spent inside by the fireplace.
One of the things we sewed (ok, my mom sewed–I cut and pinned and watched her sew) was a dog pillow for Emmy. Since I’m in the midst of re-doing our bedroom, I’ve been wanting to make Em a new bed that would be an upgrade from her worn-out beige pillow. I forgot to buy fabric before heading up north, and the selection in Ely is rather (ok, EXTREMELY) limited. That being said, I was pleased to find this gray and black paisley that goes perfectly with the colors in the bedroom. We paired it with a gray tweed upholstery fabric. Not the perfect combo, but I think it works. The bed is gusseted, which was a bit trickier than simply sewing two pieces together and calling it a day, but well worth the trouble. The pillow looks great in our bedroom, and Emmy loves her new bed. In fact, she didn’t move from it this morning until I forced her to join me in the studio (she’s my foot-warmer).
Our sewing project means that I can officially cross another item off the fall list:
sew something with my mom
There’s only one thing on my fall list that didn’t get checked off, and since the autumn season is most definitely over in Minnesota, and winter is here in full force, I’ll be saving that last activity for next year. This means I’m concluding my Fall 2010 Bucket List. It also means that a winter bucket list will be just around the corner. Despite the cold and snow, I do love winter, and am excited to celebrate the season in a multitude of ways.
I hope each of you had a lovely Thanksgiving, and that you are off to a fun/relaxing/splendid weekend! See you Monday, my dears…

I think it’s an adorable dog bed–Emmy looks very comfortable!
I love the fabric you picked for the dog bed – very nice!
