b*home :: studio carpeting, out

My studio. It’s where I spend the vast majority of my waking hours. It’s a good thing that I love the space, the light, and the architecture of the room. Remember when I refreshed it last winter? And I concluded with a (short) list of (two) final tasks to be done? One was the addition of the wall art in the north dormer. The other was the removal of the carpeting. About that. Well, I’ve been pondering it for a long time. Months, really. Knowing I wanted to do it. Knowing that hardwood floors lurked below. Yet lacking the gusto to get it done.

And then there was yesterday. A busy day, to be sure. But a day wherein this girl felt…scattered. I had a million things on my plate, yet every task felt menial. I wanted to DO something. So I got up from my desk, walked to the corner of the room. And started ripping the carpeting out. Just like that.

An hour later, the stairway was unnavigable, but the studio was home to a gleaming hardwood floor.

There is more work to be done. Staples and edging to be removed. Quarter round trim to be added. A good scrubbing is in order, too.

But at the end of the day, I have to say, I’m totally and completely smitten.

    You are a girl like unto your father…who just finished stacking a load of firewood in about 8 hrs…just to get it done. Nice job, Beth! It looks just beautiful.

    Isn’t it incredible what one change can do? It makes your space feel positively enchanting. I just switched out some dark, heavy curtains in our rental home for light, airy, sheer, white ones–and I can’t get over it. I can’t stop walking from room to room, soaking up the light, soaking up the change. It looks great!

  3. Kara says:

    Absolutely beautiful! I hope the same thing is under our carpeting. I am in a similar situation with our 1940′s cape cod and for the last 2 years have been wondering the condition of the hardwood under the carpet. You have inspired me to just go for it.

  4. Hope says:

    Oh, the hardwood floor is AMAZING…you must be SO excited! What a transformation…Already!

  5. Lora says:

    Wow…I feel like my life has come full circle now. Been a few years since I saw those floors, but they’re still beautiful! Totally fits the sleek look of your office…goodbye bedroom!
